Testimonials

Myofascial Release treats the whole person,

releasing the cause of problems not just your symptoms.

Myofascial Release is a hands on therapy. Gently stretching and pressures create the internal environment that allows the fascia to soften and return to its normal size, shape, consistency, and function. We are a honeycomb of fascial tissue from the top of our heads to the soles of our feet. The fascia is the "stuff" that holds us together. The membrane under the skin of a chicken breast is a crude example of the fascia. The fascial tissue holds and supports all of our organs and muscles.

Any form of trauma or injury can cause a restriction in the fascia. In response to trauma, the muscles spasm and fascia shortens causing myofascial restrictions. These restriction may adhere to nerves (causing pain), to bones (causing structural and postural mal-alignment), or to organs (causing dysfunction).

The theory of Myofascial Release requires an understanding of the fascial system. Fascia is tough connective tissue that forms a 3 dimensional web or honeycomb without interruption from head to foot. Fascia surrounds every muscle, bone, nerve blood vessel and organ down to cellular level. Malfunction of the fascial system due to trauma, posture, whiplash, surgery, or inflammation creates a binding down of the fascia resulting in abnormal pressures on nerves, muscles organs and bones. When an injury scars or hardens fascia in one area, it can put tension on other areas of the body even some distance from the injured area. Myofascial Release therapists specialize in assessing and treating the whole person so as to treat the cause and not just the symptoms.

Tight fascia (shown below in blue) causes an imbalance which is drawing the right shoulder down, the right hip up, creating a curve in the spine.

Not only physical tensions but also the emotional components related to your symptoms can be released during treatment. Sometimes old memories and emotions are experienced at the of release. This allows you to process that information in a safe environment, thus freeing you from pain on all levels.
